Pope Francis’ idea of a culture of encounter, first developed during his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, centers on the importance of humility, generosity, and patience as a foundation for productive dialogue and collaboration. His ideas build on Church teaching about intercultural and interreligious dialogue since the Second Vatican Council of the 1960s. And they suggest positive ways forward for dialogue and engagement within the global Catholic Church today.
Participants in the Culture of Encounter and the Global Agenda Project explore the origins and significance of the concept for the Church in its internal and external dynamics.
