Interreligious Perspectives on Peace

A Conversation with Fadi Daou

March 29, 2022
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. EDT
Location: Online Zoom Webinar

A core objective of the Revitalizing Global Religious and Interfaith Networks project is to explore how such networks can better mobilize their strengths and partnerships to contribute to sustained peace and to link it to broader goals for justice and well-being. Fadi Daou, professor of the geopolitics of religion and cofounder of the Aydan Foundation in Lebanon, has engaged with these issues over several decades and across different, often volatile societies.

In this conversation with Berkley Center Senior Fellow Katherine Marshall, the two focused specifically on his understanding of the culture of encounter that both Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayyeb advocate, and whose spirit is embodied in the "Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together" that the two global leaders signed in 2019. Daou brought unique experiences with peacebuilding and a hopeful conviction that through encounters, along with theological reflections and narrative development, religious communities can contribute in meaningful ways to global affairs.
