Released in October 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the encyclical Fratelli Tutti ("Brothers and Sisters All") marked an important juncture in the development of Catholic social thought. Pope Francis' call for human fraternity, social friendship, and a culture of encounter built on the teaching of his predecessors, adapting the tradition to the challenges of a divided world. In this talk, Thomas Banchoff, director of the Georgetown University Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, discussed the message of Fratelli Tutti and its significance for our current global moment.
This event was sponsored by the Future of the Humanities Project, the Georgetown Humanities Initiative, the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, and the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University with Blackfriars Hall, Oxford. It is part of the series Cultural Encounters: Books that Have Made a Difference.
